Newly Appointed Executive Chef Showcase A Full-time Passion… And Getting Together To Work Towards Excellence!

Liu Soon Yoong, newly appointed Executive Chef of The Klagan Regency @1Borneo Kota Kinabalu says that being executive chef in a hotel means keeping an eye on everything and being everywhere at once.

“Naturally an executive chef also relies on top staff because try as you might, you cannot at the same time run tastings to ensure quality of each and every food that comes out from the kitchen, makes sure that the right raw food stuffs reach the kitchen and that the cooks and pastry chefs follow the chef’s instructions, prepare food from 1 to 1500 people, manage budgets and actually get behind the stoves, which is all too seldom but always a real pleasure!” commented Chef Yoong.  The appointment adds another layer of local and sustainable flavor to both the banquet and restaurant menus.

With over 22 years of global culinary experience across various renowned hotels and restaurants, Chef Yoong with his creativity and innovation leads the kitchen brigade in providing guests with the most exquisite dining experience in the hotel’s restaurants and ballroom.

Narendra Sinniah, General Manager shared, “Chef Yoong passionately works on local traditional and “from scratch” recipes creating new and exciting menu options giving a burst surprising flavor combinations.”

Tamparuli is a small town and a sub-district of Tuaran on the west coast of Sabah, Malaysia. Based on a local folktale, the Tamparuli bridge was built by a British Engineer during the post-war colonial period. Many stories were told by the elders to generations who live in the villages of Tamparuli Town about the famous Tamparuli bridge.

The Tamparuli bridge legend tells a story about a beautiful young woman who fell in love and later on became a human sacrifice to appease the river spirits.

Zing Restaurant And Bar : The New Chilling Place In Town

The grand opening of Zing Restaurant & Bar! The latest chilling and happening place in town! Zing Restaurant & Bar is located at Imago KK Times Square’s Aramaiti Street. A beautifully constructed Restaurant and Bar, 5000sqft floor space with the longest square bar in KK city so far. A very special Grand opening month of beer promotion are to entice you to come over.

They have varieties of refreshing western and local food menus to choose from. A Must try the Zing’s top recommendation, the Cocktail. Their Cocktail drinks base was the Strongbow Apple Ciders, which is specifically made for the ladies who did not favour strong alcoholic drinks.

There are variety of mocktails available at Zing and their top recommendation would be the Mock Champagne, Sapphire Lemonade and the Pina Colada as well. Each mocktail only contain a small amount of alcohol percentage and it is very suitable for the ladies whenever they went out to drink, chilling and relax with their friends. ZING RESTAURANT AND BAR (2) 40675730_1358609207602364_3544699074177400832_o There are also variety of western and local food selection to choose from. For starter, the Ultimate Loaded Nachos and Sweet Potato Fries are very tasty and crispy. Then, The Zing’s recommendation meal was the Beef ribs. It was dressed with mushroom sauce and served with mashed potatoes, grilled corn and buttered vegetables. The meat is tender, juicy and slice off easily from the bone! I must say is very well-seasoned and goes extremely well with the mash potatoes and sauce. They also served local foods such as Nasi Kerabu, Asam Beef with fragrance rice and also the Chicken or Beef satay. For a healthier choice, choose selections of refreshing Salads. They also made amazing desserts, the Thai Milk Tea Crepe Cake and Tiramisu are very delicious! ZING RESTAURANT AND BAR (4) 40922999_1358609110935707_3946029227861606400_o

This is especially true around the holiday season. It’s a season to gather and celebrate, and at the centre of that celebration is food.

All Sabahans living away from home, miss one other thing almost as much as they miss their family and friends, and that is food.

Sure, we have our Christmas dinners of turkey, stuffing, cakes and custard. But come the morning after, heads heavy from all that bubbly, we bee line to the nearest fish head noodle, sup pipin or ngiu chap. That’s just the Sabahan way.

For a little more kick out but still sticking to our Asian flavours, we recommend Thaily in Lido Plaza (Lot 3, Ground floor, Kedai Lido Plaza, Penampang).

Owned by a husband and wife duo, one being Thai and another Sabahan, expect homely Thai flavours and a warm Sabahan welcome. It’s so good that you could Thaily, daily. Pun intended.

One exciting thing about being away and coming back is getting reacquainted to all your favourite spots. A little hide out for brunch and coffee, befitting of its name, Sabahans that are away will be surprised to find that their favourite Nook (No 8 Lorong Dewan) is growing beyond its little nook and cranny. Expanding to a much bigger space but still along Jalan Dewan, look for nook in the New Year.

Kampung Nelayan

And if you are looking for one last gathering before you ring in the year, Kampung Nelayan(Jalan Kolam, Bukit Padang) is a classic choice. It doesn’t get more nostalgic than the wooden boarded floors, floating boat restaurant and live seafood here. Where the 7.30pm cultural dance gives you a fun experience of feeling like tourist in your own town for a night. They have amazing varieties of Seafood to savoir your taste-bud.
