Walk under the towering rainforest trees of Danum Valley where some of Borneo’s most elusive and rare wildlife species live.  The 438 sq. km. conservation area is an oasis of preserved lowland rainforest and home to the full range of Sabah's lowland fauna including the rare Sumatran rhinoceros, elephant, clouded leopard, and orang utan. Plant and birdlife are equally varied and extensive.  So far some 275 species of birds have been recorded in the area.  Remnants of past human habitation are also visible in the hills surrounding the valley.

Day 1 – Lahad Datu – Danum Valley
Morning pick up at Lahad Datu airport or hotel.  Drive 83km to the Danum Valley Conservation Area through regenerating and primary rainforest before arriving at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge.  The afternoon is spent exploring a nearby nature trail and canopy walkway.  If weather permits, go spotlighting to view some of the nocturnal animals. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge. (L, D)

Day 2 – Danum Valley
Early morning bird walk before breakfast. Spend the whole day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins. Trek to a waterfall for a dip in refreshing rock pools.  The afternoon is for optional activities either tubing down the river or a jungle trek.  Enjoy a night walk after dinner to spot nocturnal creatures of the rainforest. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 3 – Danum Valley
The morning is spent trekking to Fairy Falls and Serpent Walls before returning to the lodge for lunch. Optional activities in the afternoon; trek along the Segama River or explore the nature trails at your leisure. Enjoy a night walk after dinner to spot nocturnal creatures of the rainforest. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 4 – Danum Valley – Lahad Datu
Morning trek in search of mammals and birds. Return to the Centre for lunch before departing for Lahad Datu hotel or airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu. (B, L)

Recommended Personal Gear
Torchlight, swim wear, insect repellent, leech socks, walking shoes, raincoat (umbrella not recommended), hat, binoculars, sun screen (sweat proof) and personal toiletries. Use good walking shoes and comfortable cotton T-shirt with long or short pant.
