Atlantis Bistro

The latest addition to Kota Kinabalu’s Waterfront Esplanade is the Atlantis Bistro, a stylish and dynamic restaurant that brings a fresh breeze into Sabah’s food industry. Atlantis’ clear lines and cool colours are complemented with excellent food and wines – the menu is as surprising and fresh as the bistro’s overall design and philosophy.

The ambiance of the Bistro is relaxed and casual, yet comfortable and an ideal place for a stopover during your shopping spree in Sabah’s capital. Or take your family and friends out for a light lunch or dinner, a coffee and some good company, or for a drink from the well stocked bar. The upper deck of Atlantis will open shortly and it is from there where you have the best views of the South China Sea, the islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine National Park and perfect sunsets. When you step into the restaurant with its vast window bays you are immediately immersed in its ambience, which is reminiscent of a yacht. The subtle blue tones, especially suitable in tropical countries, of the fabrics and walls give the rooms a cool feel, offset with the rich dark-brown of the clear-lined wooden furniture and broken with playful china. The design is well created and reflects again in the name of the bistro: Atlantis, the mystical island that was lost when it disappeared in the sea. Looked after by professionals with enthusiasm, and staffed with friendly employees you will feel immediately at easy.

By denomination a bistro, Atlantis offers light foods and drinks, international classics of European origin freshly prepared to perfection with local seafood and other specialities. Despite its sleek and clean design and fancy china you need not fear though that dining at the Atlantis Bistro might burn a hole into your wallet. And even though you can chose from a mouth-watering array of appetizers starting at RM 8 (ca US$ 2) and tempting main dishes from RM 18 (US$ 5), food quality is by no means cheap, in the contrary! The bistro offers some of the freshest seafood in town!

The secret lies with the managing company behind it, which has its own seafood industry. Over 1000 acres of prawn farms in Tawau on Sabah’s east coast, and a fleet of 20 trawlers amongst others provide the best possible quality of fish and other seafood, always fresh from the seas. This guarantees what is most important with seafood, and what makes Sabah one of the best places to enjoy it: freshness. Chef Harun and the Director of Operations, Bill are particularly concerned that food quality is at its best, and together with their young crew of waiters and chefs they run the bistro with much passion and pleasure, a fact you can feel the moment you enter.

Also by the same company you will find the Atlantis Seafood Restaurant along Jalan Bundusan in Taman Golf View. While the Atlantis Bistro offers food more along western cuisine the Seafood Restaurant is a classical Chinese restaurant offering the best in the oceans from their own fishing grounds and farms. And the Atlantis Café in Damai Plaza in Luyang is the classical Sabah coffee shop albeit with a twist and it offers a mix of local and western fare.

The Atlantis Bistro is now open daily for lunch and dinner. You are welcome anytime and you don’t need to eat. Enjoy a good coffee or tea, or a cocktail and of course the magnificent view of the South China Sea and Sabah’s famed sunsets. The upper deck, from where sunsets are enjoyed best will open soon. It is the ideal place for you and your friends to have a break from your discovery of KK – or from your shopping trips in the capital…
