Yit Ping Shiang Restaurant was opened in 1971, focusing on Shanghai cuisine. They were the first ones to provide an air-conditioned restaurant in Kota Kinabalu. During that time, dining in an air-conditioned was considered expensive and was not affordable by everyone until Malaysia\u2019s economy took off in the late 1980\u2019s. Yit Ping Shiang used to be the venue for many wedding receptions and banquets event, where one can dress up during the important occasions. The business was doing very well and their restaurant expanded from one floor to three floors. Shanghai Cuisine was very popular in Kota Kinabalu during this most glorious era.<\/p>\n
In the 1990s, after the death of its proprietor, Mr Li, the widow carried out the management and operation of the business until today with her son. Nothing much has changed, the restaurant interior decorations are preserved as much as possible and prices for their dishes remained the same for many years. as of 2024\u00a0 Yit Ping Shiang is temporary close. but not to worry, nearby\u00a0 few shop away, restaurant King Hu\u00a0 (since 1970’s)\u00a0 who serve similar Shanghainese food is still open for business on evening hours 6;30pm to 8:30pm.<\/p>\n
